Former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed arrested by EFCC over N1trn Abuja land swap
The immediate past minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, was reportedly arrested by EFCC today October 24th. According to Vanguard, he was arrested over suspected multiple criminal breaches, questionable schemes and alleged breaches while in office. His arrest followed a series of petitions filed against him by individuals and group since 2013.

When Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was rearrested on Friday, 21st of October, 2016, in the premises of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, we raised a number of issues which included that the re-arrest was not only unnecessary but that it was also reckless.
We made known our fears that Fani-Kayode’s life was in dire danger as long as he remained in EFCC custody or in the custody of any agency of the federal government based on discreet information available to us. This is apart from the fact that his health has been badly affected since his incarceration for a whopping 67 days based on some questionable ‘detention orders’. This fact is well known to the EFCC as Fani-Kayode’s lawyers have written several letters to the Commission reminding them of the health conditions of the former minister of aviation (Kindly see attached).
It is therefore shocking that having known these facts, the EFCC still acted in a most unprofessional and crude way by re-arresting a man who has never been known to turn down their invitation even for once, who was since granted administrative bail by the same Commission after meeting the stringent conditions set by them; a man who is also supposed to be on bail as granted by the courts after fulfilling the conditions, and who even has his international passport still lodged with the Commission.
Although Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was yet to complete the recovery therapy he was undergoing after spending the initial 67 grueling days in EFCC custody wherein he was also physically attacked by one of the Commission’s agents, in deference to the law and the Commission, he painfully but willingly cut short his therapy and medical checks to attend court proceedings.
One would have thought that these were enough to convince EFCC that Fani-Kayode was very willing to face his persecutors in court. But rather than be humane in their conduct, EFCC hounded him for the umpteenth time on that fateful Friday and have since kept him in custody.
It is therefore little wonder that based on the history of his medical conditions which the Commission is very much aware of, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode slumped while in detention on Saturday, 22nd of October, 2016.
But for the quick and professional intervention of the medical team in the EFCC medical facilities, the story could have been different, it could have been fatal!

EFCC arrests former presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati
EFCC operatives have arrested former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati. He was arrested today and he is being interrogated for allegedly receiving some money from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki who is currently being tried for misappropriation of $2.1 billion arms procurement fund. Abati is expected to spend the night at the EFCC office today.

After months of blaming PDP for the current state of the economy, APC government today took responsibility for the economy, promising to find a solution to the current crises.
Speaking after a closed door meeting President Buhari had with all APC governors at the state house Abuja today, Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, said
"We must take responsibility and we must never shift the responsibility to anybody. We are responsible for everything happening in Nigeria. The good, the bad, the ugly but we are promising Nigerians that we shall fix it. We share the pains of Nigerians, every human being must feel it. We also feel what they are going through but we are asking for a little patience let us do things the right way and do it once and for all.”

I was not elected to spread poverty in Nigeria – Jonathan
Immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he was never elected as Nigeria’s president to spread poverty in all nooks and cranny of the nation.
Jonathan said he was rather elected to generate and spread wealth.
Jonathan who spoke at the Oxford Union, with the theme ‘Fostering Youth Entrepreneurship, said his tenure as the commander in chief of the Nigeria armed forces witnessed tremendous changes.
“I once said that I was not elected President of Nigeria to spread poverty; I was elected to generate and spread wealth.
“My belief in this regard is that getting a job or being a worker cannot completely cure the disease of poverty. It is only your own business that can provide such security and give you the financial freedom you need to prosper.
“Why are some nations rich and some poor? Why do individuals that grow up in similar circumstances end up differently, with some as successes and others as failures?”
“Is the wealth of nations a result of geography, weather, culture, destiny, etc.? What could a leader do to effectively lift a people out of the depths of poverty and enable them to achieve prosperity?” asked Jonathan.”
Jonathan also took his time to speak about youth entrepreneurship programs his administration pioneered, saying that one of them, YouWIN, was a major plank of his job creation efforts.
“The motivation for this program is for young people to go into SMEs, create jobs for other young people with the expectation that some would grow to large scale businesses”, Jonathan said.
He concluded his speech by giving a short brief of his achievements in the economic sphere, saying, “Under my watch, Nigeria was projected by CNN Money to be the third fastest growing economy in the world for the year 2015 and rated as the largest economy in Africa and the 23rd largest in the world by the World Bank and the IMF, with a GDP above half a Trillion US dollars
LASU dismisses 13 staff for falsifying results
The Lagos State University has dismissed 13 members of staff in the junior cadre, following reports from the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
The institution, in an official bulletin said the decision was taken by the Governing Council at its 112th Statutory Meeting.
It said the council, after deliberation, approved the recommendation of the disciplinary committee to dismiss 13 out of the 14 staff members presented by the disciplinary committee for necessary action.
“Council at its 112th statutory meeting received and considered Paper No. 10/GC/16/068 on the Report of Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee on allegations leveled against some members of staff.
“It, after deliberations, approved the recommendation of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee on the affected members of staff,’’ it said.
The university authorities said in the bulletin that one of the staff members was exonerated of the allegation of falsification of results levelled against him.
According to the authorities, nine of the affected members of staff were dismissed on the grounds of falsification and irregularities in their West African Examination Council results.
The bulletin indicated that one of the affected staff members was dismissed for involvement in fraudulent act, two for theft and one for abandonment of duty.
Our official didn’t ask Jimoh Ibrahim for bribe – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied the allegation made by Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim that its official asked for $1m bribe before his name could be inserted as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.
The commission in a statement by its National Commissioner in charge of Publicity, Mr. Adedeji Soyebi, in Abuja on Monday, said the Acting Director, Legal Services Mrs. Toyin Babalola did not ask for bribe as alleged by Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, one of those laying claim to the ticket of the PDP for the election, had alleged that Babalola asked for $1m bribe from him, before the order made by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, could be complied with by the commission.
He also accused the Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, Mr. Segun Agbaje of being a member of the PDP and also playing what he described as “dirty deals.”
Ibrahim also alleged that the Ondo REC “requested to hold a meeting with him (Ibrahim) in far away London, in the United Kingdom.”
Soyebi, while denying the allegations, said the preliminary investigation by the commission indicated that Ibrahim was not saying the truth.
He said, “The commission hereby states, for the records, that from its preliminary investigation, nothing can be farther from the truth.
“On the first allegation. our investigation revealed that Mr. Ibrahim turned up at the INEC headquarters, Abuja unannounced, made his way to Mrs. Babalola’s office, brandished a copy of the court document and insisted that INEC should accept him as the official candidate of the PDP for the Ondo Governorship Poll.
“On sighting the unexpected guest, Mrs. Babalola called three other lawyers in her department to witness her encounter with Mr. Ibrahim and politely told him that the commission was already in possession of the court document.
“At no time during the encounter that lasted less than 15 minutes did Mrs Babalola ask for $1m.
“Therefore, the allegation by Mr. Ibrahim is false.”
Lagos state governemnt arraigns suspected kidnappers of traditional ruler, Oniba of Iba
The Lagos state government today arraigned the suspected kidnappers of the Oniba of Iba, before the Lagos High Court Igbosere. The Four suspects namely Duba Furejo, Ododomo Isaiah, Reuben Anthony and Yerin Fresh are accused of kidnapping the monarch in Iba on July 16th. The 73 year old monarch was later released after three months with his kidnappers.
