Gunmen storm burial ceremony, kill seven people in Rivers (Details)

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of some residents at Ihuaje community in Ahaoda-East Local government area of the state.
 
Daily Post reports that the spokesman of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni said that the victims were killed during a funeral ceremony in Ihuaje.
 
Omoni said a group of suspected cultists stormed the venue of the funeral and shot at their targets, leaving many innocent people hit by bullets.
 
“The gunmen arrived at the ceremony and shot sporadically at their targets but others were killed by stray bullets.

“We believe it was a cult attack even though we are still investigating.
 
“Our men have been deployed to restore calm in the area,” he said.
 
Meanwhile, a source in the community told our correspondent that seven bodies were recovered from the scene of the crime.
 
The source said the incident happened on Saturday evening, adding that many resident had fled the community.
 
The Police also confirmed the killing of one person at Edi community in Egi area of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area.
