Olaitan tried to run away from the scene, but a member of the public managed to detain him and handed him over to police. He was speeding down Trinity Street, in Bolton town centre, the Manchester Evening News reports. .
In a CCTV clip released by police, Olaitan can be seen driving along Trinity Street in a white Citroen C4 Cactus at around 2am. He is seen approaching the junction of Bradford Street, but instead of paying attention to the red light, Olatan whizzes through. .
The vehicle then hits the back of a taxi driving through a green light. Both cars can then be seen spinning out of control in the middle of the road, caused by the impact of the collision. .
He was breath tested and was found to have 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – nearly double the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fortunately, the taxi driver and passengers did not suffer any serious injuries. .
Olaitan was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, drink driving, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for two years and has been disqualified from driving for two years. .
He must also pay £515 in fines, adhere to a curfew and wear an electronic tag as well as take an extended driving test.
