Buhari won’t spare anyone found to be corrupt- Rotimi Amaechi says

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that corruption and bad governance were responsible for the present economic quagmire in the country.
He however said that “there is great hope that this country will prosper.”
The Vice president spoke while receiving a delegation of the Northern States Pentecostal Bishops Forum in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.
He said: “this country has been badly governed. We are dealing for instance with the embezzlement of funds to the tune of $15B in one sector alone.
“We have not turned attention to the oil and gas sector, where the former CBN Governor alleged that $20B was stolen. We must condemn and stand up against this level of corruption. It is the single most important reason of the current state of the country. We can’t ignore it.”
Osinbajo who observed that there were concerns about why the government was talking about the past also stated that “We have to, that is why we are here.”
The Vice President then called on Christian and religious leaders in the country to condemn corruption “openly”, adding that “we can’t say because they are Christians or Muslims we wont condemn those involved in corruption.”
He said that the “country has been systematically destroyed “explaining that “Our currency depreciated because we don’t have the reserves to back it. At the height of the oil boom, there were no savings.”
Osinbajo stated that the vandalization of pipelines in the Niger Delta has led to the worsening of the situation with the country loosing about 1 million barrels of oil per day for up to 6 months now.
He added that the vandalism has equally cut power supply short since gas pipelines were also destroyed.
“That is the background for the sort of situation we find ourselves,” Prof Osinbajo asserted while expressing renewed hope that “God surely has a plan for this country. We (as a government) are open, honest, transparent and we shall use the resources of this country very well.”
He pointed out that the GDP figures released last week by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBA clearly indicated there was growth in agriculture and solid minerals. According to him “agric and solid minerals have witnessed improvements.”
Speaking on the social investment programmes, Osinbajo assured “that very soon the 500,000 jobs scheme will take off,” alongside other schemes.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum, Archbishop Daniel expressed the support of the forum for the diversification of the Nigerian economy by the Buhari presidency, while calling for access to lower interest rates.
A statement from Osinbajo’s office also stated that the forum asked the federal government to checkmate the violent herdsmen, create ranches in the states and promote religious harmony.
Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has said President Buhari will not spare anyone involved in acts of corruption, not even any member of his cabinet. Amaechi said this when he delivered a keynote speech at a Cambridge University symposium yesterday September 5th.

The president’s resolve was enough to signal all of us, members of his cabinet and the citizenry, that an end has come for the old ways of doing things. Currently, many people who have been indicted in one form of corrupt practice or another are being prosecuted in our courts. That, I believe is the way to show leadership and take responsibility. Our president has stopped at nothing to demonstrate that whosoever is caught in corruption related crimes will not be spared" he said
Illegal gun factory operators arrested in BenueThe Police in Benue on Tuesday said they arrested two persons suspected to be operating an illegal gun factory in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Moses Yamu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi that the suspects were nabbed by the command’s “Operation Zenda’’.
Yamu said that the squad was on stop-and-search duty along Vandiekya-Adikpo road, when the suspects were caught, adding that at the men had a locally-made pistol with them at the time of arrest.
He explained that investigation into the arrest led to the discovery of a gun manufacturing factory at Tsar Village in Vandiekya Local Government Area.
He disclosed that several locally-made weapons, including SMG, pistol frame, one single barrel and assorted guns parts, were discovered at the factory.
The spokesman added that a box containing arms manufacturing tools and 12 live ammunitions were also recovered at the site.
He assured that the command would ensure total end to proliferation of arms and ammunition in the state. (NAN)
New Police College Commandant reveals major cause of inconclusive elections
The outgoing Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, has said that security challenges were responsible for inconclusive elections.
Ezike stated this while handing over to his successor, Fimihan Adeoye, in Benin.
He, however, assured that adequate security arrangements had been made for next Saturday’s governorship election.
The commissioner, who was transferred to the Police College, Ikeja, as Commandant, urged his successor to “implement the laid down security arrangement to ensure the success of the poll.”
He also advised officers and men of the state command to remain professional and police with integrity.
Buhari may end up like Jonathan – Oby Ezekwesili
Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, convener, Oby Ezekwesili, on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the activities of the police that are frustrating the BBOG campaign, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari is going down the wrong lane.
The former minister noted that the BBOG has a right to protest as stipulated in the 1999 constitution and that the police should not in any way halt the group’s peaceful activities.
Ezekwesili warned that if the government and the police do not retrace their step, they could end up like the former administration of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, who was voted out of office for failing to rescue the abducted Chibok girls among other things.
The BBOG postponed its Friday march to allow Muslim members of the group observe the Jama’at prayer service, they resumed on Tuesday, but were blocked by the police and some supporters of President Buhari.
Ezekwesili expressed her disappointment via her Twitter handle, @obyezeks.
She wrote, “I remember when WE @BBOG_Nigeria would COUNSEL AIG MBU about his excesses against CITIZENS’ RIGHT. A word is ENOUGH FOR THE WISE @PoliceNG.
