RRS nabs six kid-robbers in Oshodi
In a clampdown on criminals operating in Oshodi, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six teenage mobile phone thieves in Oshodi.
The suspects were all apprehended in Oshodi Oke on Friday morning, October 28th, while brazenly dispossessing commuters of their belongings.
They are: Ganiyu Rahman Sadiq Adebayo (15); Timilehin Oluwaseun (14); Ogundare Moyinoluwa (18); Toheeb Tijani (19) and Adeleke Sodiq (17).

Don't drag Buhari into judges' arrest - Presidency
The Presidency has advised journalists and other Nigerians to stop linking President Muhammadu Buhari to the legal travails of some recently arrested Judges in the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said President Muhammadu Buhari would be the last person to authorise anybody to induce a Judge to pervert the course of justice.
Malam Shehu recalled that, despite his personal familiarity with some court Judges, the President had never used that familiarity to seek favours from them from 2003, 2007 and 2011 when he was challenging the fairness of the presidential election results during the periods in question.
The Senior Special Assistant also explained that, as a politician, Buhari had never once ever suggested to his lawyers to approach any Judge for assistance to win his cases. He said the President lives by this principle and has never deviated from it.
On the fate of the Judges facing corruption allegations, the Presidential Media Aide said the President doesn't tell Courts how to do their jobs and that anybody accused of corruption is protected by law to defend their innocence.
He explained that the purpose of the law is to punish the guilty and acquit the innocent, noting that the law projects the rights everyone.
Shehu stressed that the President doesn't have any powers to force any court to convict anybody who is innocent, arguing that in a democratic society, that cannot happen without resistance by the people.
6 children of same parents poisoned to death in Anambra state set to be buried next week
Six siblings, who were poisoned to death in Ekwulumili, Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State are set to be laid to rest on Saturday, November 5th, 2016.
The children died after consuming food poisoned by unknown person on July 16, 2016. The parents are believed to have attempted suicide following the tragic death of their children.
Posting their obituary announcement on Facebook, Ewenike Ogechukwu wrote:
"Very painful. What a remarkable sorrowful event? A question were asked " what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose the kingdom of the life maker our God? "
what a deep scar to the living future hope of the town? It's time we battle, fight and overcome atrocities and abomination in our various towns.
Say "NO" to outrage, disgrace, scandal, eyesore, atrocity, horror, hate, anathema, aversion, curse, detestation, evil, nuisance, plague, shame, torment, hatred, dislike, repugnance, loathing, revulsion, abhorrence, disgust , wrongdoing, crime, offense.

Olubadan loses daughter
The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has lost his daughter, Mujidat Alagbada, in a fatal accident on Tuesday.
A source at the palace, who preferred anonymity because he had no authority to speak on behalf of the Ibadan monarch, said Mrs. Alagbada died after a taxi she chattered was involved in an accident around the Lagos end of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Road.
He said, “Olubadan is sad because of the death of his daughter. She was the wife of a popular music promoter, Alagbada. She was going to her shop when her personal vehicle broke down. She chartered a taxi but on the way, the taxi was involved in an accident around the tollgate in Lagos.
“She later died of injuries she sustained in the accident. The Olubadan has received support from Ibadan elders and council of chiefs. She was buried on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.”
Our correspondent learnt that prominent Ibadan people and dignitaries from all over Nigeria would visit the monarch on Monday (today) to commiserate with him.
Effort to speak with the special assistant to the king was unsuccessful as his mobile telephone number was switched off.
LASG shuts water packaging factories
The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LSWRC) has sealed off facilities of some water service providers in the state for alleged non-compliance with the state’s water sector law.
The LSWRC stated on Sunday that the action was as a result of the determination of the government to ensure the safety of lives of the residents.
The commission said it had sealed off the premises of Evan Water in Igando; Motkleen Premium Table Water in Obadore, and Pep Water in Okokomaiko.
The Executive Secretary, LSWRC, Kabiru Ahmed, said the government wanted to prevent the spread of water borne diseases in the state, hence the decision to regulate the water sector.
He said, “The government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that all stakeholders in the water sector comply with the guidelines and regulations for water abstraction/consumption. We are determined to ensure that Lagosians have access to potable water.
“The government is aware of the pollution of the state’s surface and groundwater sources, uncontrolled abstraction and consumption of groundwater resources through the activities of unqualified personnel in the water sector. As a government, we will not fold our arms and allow the situation to deteriorate further.”
Ahmed urged all stakeholders in the water sector to work with the government to ensure that the sector was regulated to meet the water needs of Lagosians.
US election: Nigeria backs Clinton
Ahead of the United States election scheduled for November 8, 2016, Nigeria has shown support for Hillary Clinton against her closest challenger Donald Trump.
This is going by a statement made by Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister in Enugu, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, who had declared before a gathering of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, that “in less than two weeks, a woman, Hillary Clinton will win election as the President of the United States.”
The minister, who was talking specifically to APC women wing, who had presented him with a gift, was certain of Clinton’s victory in the election.
At the same venue, Onyeama, while speaking with journalists, justified the refusal of the Federal Government to support the on-going agitation for self determination by some pro-Biafraa groups.
The event was stakeholders/caucus meeting of the Enugu State chapter of the APC.
He said it was wrong to compare the Palestinian case with that of Biafra.
While noting that the case of Palestinian was already a matter before the United Nations, he advised those agitating for “Republic of Biafra” to follow laid down constitutional and Diplomatic processes, rather than engaging in uncivilised methods.
He said though it was their fundamental rights to clamour for Biafra, “but they should be rational and not emotional in going about it”.
The minister urged those spearheading the breakaway project to critically look at the rules governing secession.
Onyeama further declared that those leading the agitation “are not speaking for Ndigbo, as they do not have the mandate of the Igbo race to do so.
“I have called so many Igbo leaders and spoken to them about these issues and all of them have made it clear that they are not with the agitators.
“So, where did they derive their mandate? You cannot just wake up and claim to be representing the entire Igbo people.”
He, however, called on Nigerians, particularly those of the South-East extraction, to keep supporting the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC government, stressing that the administration had the capacity to tackle the present challenges facing the nation.
According to him, the administration had put necessary mechanism in place aimed at addressing the present economic recession confronting the country.
In his remarks, convener of the meeting and Enugu state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, had assured the national leadership of the APC that the state chapter was highly committed to wrestling power from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, come 2019 in Enugu State.
He said existing political structures were currently been oiled and strengthened at all levels in the state, calling on true democrats and progressives to embrace the party so as to enthrone a better Enugu state in the next political dispensation.
Nwoye, also appealed to Nigerians to exercise some patience with Buhari led federal government, as it makes frantic efforts towards stabilising the current dwindling Nigerian economy occasioned by some anti human and economic policies of the past PDP led administration.
Present at the meeting were the Special Adviser to president Buhari on judiciary Reforms, Barr. (Mrs) Juliet Ibekaku, Ambassador Designate from the state, Major General Chris Eze, (Rtd),
Members of the state working committee, amongst others.
