Akpabio denies sponsoring 2face Idibia’s planned protest, Former presidential candidate, Pere Ajuwa dies and other major headline stories you missed today!

Dear KFBers, we have got loads of interesting stories in tonight's #MajorHeadlinesYouMissedToday feature...enjoy!

Former presidential candidate, Pere Ajuwa dies

The death has been announced of elder statesman, Chief Pere Ajuwa.
Ajuwa, a former Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Nigeria and the Alliance for Democracy in the 2003 and 2007 elections reportedly died at a hospital in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Confirming the development, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson described Ajuwa’s demise as sad, shocking and a monumental loss to the government and people of Bayelsa State.
Dickson, in his condolence message, recalled Ajuwa’s journey into politics, which saw him hustle for the governorship stool of the old Rivers State and later for the presidency.
Dickson said, “Ajuwa supported every genuine effort of the Ijaw people to be properly recognised and be accorded their pride of place politically, economically, and in other areas of human endeavour by using his personal resources to fight for the political and economic emancipation of the minorities of the South-South.”

Nigeria can produce 3m barrels of crude per day – Kachikwu

The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources , Mr Ibe Kachikwu, said that Nigeria is capable of producing three million barrels of crude oil per day from the Niger Delta region.

Kachikwu stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs on Tuesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that apart from the Niger Delta Ministry, the convener, the meeting was also attended by officials from the, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCD&MB), among others.

The minister said the insecurity in the region had been undermining the nation’s capacity to realise its potential in oil production.

“It is important we continue to sustain the institutional engagement and negotiations which are key to the development of the region.

“Our target is zero militancy by the middle of 2017, and an incident reduction in the region by 90 per cent by 2018.

Akpabio denies sponsoring 2face Idibia’s planned protest

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has denied that he is the brain behind a nationwide protest which will be staged by singer 2face Idibia and other celebrities against the federal government on February 5.

Social media has been awash with speculations that Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, was sponsoring the protest.

Rumours claimed 2face has been friends with Akpabio for a long time and pointed to the Prado SUV he received from the Governor in 2013 as a wedding gift as proof.

But in a statement released by his spokesperson, Anietie Ekong, he made it clear that he had nothing to do with it.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Senator Akpabio knows nothing about the planned protest neither is he the sponsor,” the statement read.

The statement continued: “According to the information being circulated the organizers of the planned protest have stated clearly that their protest is: ‘a call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to legislatures, no to judiciary.’ Is it not idiotic and senseless for anyone to imagine that Senator Akpabio will sponsor a protest against the same arm of government that he is serving as a leader?

“As the Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio has consistently maintained that Nigerians should put aside their differences and support every effort that will pull the country out of the present recession.

“Much as he believes in the right of every Nigerian to express himself, he does not think that mass protest is the solution.”

“The mischievous attempt to drag the name of Senator Akpabio into the planned protest should be discountenanced as the handiwork of political jobbers,” the statement said.

Policemen who harass Nigerians, search through phones in trouble – AIG

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone II Kayode Aderanti has warned police operatives against harassing Nigerians.

He spoke on Tuesday during a familiarisation visit to the Lagos Police Command at Ikeja.

On issue of kidnapping, Aderanti said: “Already, the commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun States are working in partnership with the inspector general of police’ anti-kidnapping unit.

“Also, there has been an increase in cultism in Lagos and I charge policemen to take up the responsibility and ensure their effrontery is reduced to the barest minimum.

“Illegal duty by policemen has reached an alarming proportion and is highly unprofessional. It needs to be nipped in the bud. Some of them operate in unmarked vehicles, harassing people and searching through their phones. That must stop as violators will be severely dealt with.

“The current Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has zero tolerance for corruption and official misconduct.

“Whosoever requests money for bail or to register people’s complaints is on his own and they will be tackled appropriately. I warn again, don’t demand gratification from members of the public.”

The AIG further warned officers and men residing in dilapidated barrack buildings to vacate.

He said: “Policemen living in rickety barracks should vacate those buildings. Most of those structures cannot stand any integrity test.

“I urge you in your best interest to move out because of your family. When you go to work, you leave them at home and if the building collapses, they will be victims.

“We have a genuine desire for them to be alive because it’s only the living that can fight crime. Anyone who does not live in police barracks is paid his/her rent allowances.”

FG bars Unviersities of Agric from admitting students without farming interest

Nigerian Government has stopped the admission of students who do not have farming interests into its Universities of Agriculture.

Audu Ogbeh, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said this at a stakeholders’ meeting with registrars and pro-Chancellors of the universities in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister, who expressed regrets that non-agriculture-based courses like engineering were being offered in the schools, directed that only agriculture-related disciplines be thought.

Ogbeh said the Federal Government’s decision to relocate its three Universities of Agriculture from the Federal Ministry of Education to Agriculture, was to refocus the schools as globally acclaimed citadels to move the agriculture sector forward.

“The domiciliation of the universities in this ministry is a commendable effort by the Federal Government based on sound reasoning and logic.

“Your return will effectively help us to reposition the three universities of agriculture as centres of excellence for the rapid development of the agriculture sector.

“There is no place where the competence and capacity to drive agriculture resides outside the Universities of Agriculture. We need to achieve a hunger-free Nigeria.

“Henceforth, students who are not interested in becoming farmers should be made to seek admission elsewhere.

“We are determined to offer you the necessary support for your transformation, for research for a healthier realm of discovery and self-actualization,’’ Ogbeh added.

Family suspects rich man as female UNILAG undergraduate dies mysteriously

The death of Miss Joy Odama, a mass communication undergraduate is still shrouded in mysterious circumstances, leaving many close to her in shock.
Investigation by Leadership revealed that on December 18, 2016, the deceased in company of her friend, Elizabeth had gone to one Alhaji Usman I. Adamu, who is believed to be a philanthropist, because he assists indigent students, with scholarship to complete their studies.

According to the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Philomina Odama, “when it was my daughter’s turn to see Alhaji Adamu, she told him that she had come to seek for an assistance to continue with her education. But the ‘philanthropist’ told her to come along with her mother to the house.

"My daughter told me this and I decided to go there with her, since the quarters where the Alhaji lives were in the same neighborhood where we reside. I equally met other people in the house seeking for the same assistance from this Alhaji Adamu.

According to her, when the late Joy had introduced her mother, “the Alhaji promised that he would support her daughter in school and also promised the mother a job at the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“Two days later, on the evening of 20th of December, the Alhaji called my daughter, and told her that his house help is seriously sick and that she should please come and help him look after her while he goes to look for a doctor.

“He also said that he has called other girls (that is some of the girls we saw in the house the previous day). My daughter informed me about this and I allowed her to go. That was the last time I saw my daughter alive.”

Mrs. Odama further narrated that she called the daughter later and she told her that she was in the company of other girls in Alhaji’s house and that she would soon be back. According to her, “About an hour later, she was not yet back, I called her but she did not pick the call. I called her several times and there was no response.

"Then I called Alhaji’s number, but he too did not pick. I became worried. I continued calling her number and that of the Alhaji every now and then and the Alhaji eventually picked his call. However, to my surprise, he pretended not to know who l was or who my daughter was.

She continued, “When I pressed further, he replied, ‘Did anything happen to Joy?’, as if he did not know where Joy was. And I knew all was not well.

"We were about going to Karmo Police Station [Abuja], to report the matter when 2 police officers came to my house and told us (myself and my husband) to follow them to the station. On getting to the station (Karmo Police station), the DPO informed us that all the girls that went to Alhaji’s house were all unconscious; that one is not responding to treatment, while others are responding to treatment.

"The next day, which was December 22, 2016, I and some of my relatives and a lawyer, including a close family friend who works with an NGO went to the police station again. That was when they informed me that my daughter was dead and has been taken to the mortuary,” she explained.

Our lawyer asked the DPO if the Alhaji has been arrested. But the DPO said bluntly, ‘As far as he is concerned, no crime has been committed and that my daughter died a natural death and that he cannot arrest the Alhaji.”

In a petition on the matter, an Abuja based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Basic Rights Enlightenment Foundation and the family have cried out to the office of the senate president, the House of Representatives, the Human Rights Commission, Inspector General of Police as well as the Department of State Services to hasten action in unraveling circumstances leading to the death of Miss Joy Odama with a view to bringing the culprits to justice.

According to a petition addressed to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the biggest worry of the family of the late Joy and the NGO is that the prime suspect in the murder of Miss Odama, is still working free without attempt by the police to bring him to book.

Another source of worry to the petitioners is that the remains of the late Joy had already been embalmed before she was put in the morgue.
The DPO directed us to the Federal Medical Centre Airport Road Abuja and on getting to the mortuary at the hospital; we discovered that my daughter’s body has been embalmed,” Mrs. Odama said.

According to her, she has laboured seriously to see Joy and her younger sister through school before she was murdered in what looked like a ritual killing. Joy's family are crying for justice.

Imagine an Okada rider with 4 school children on his bike on motion and he's using one hand to be answering phone call. This was captured at Eleyeile express road, Ibadan. Just too risky. See more below:

The parents should just look for Keke that will be taking their kids to school. That is still a bit safer.

Presidency finally reacts to 2face-Led planned nationwide protest

The presidency has reacted to the February 5th proposed Nationwide protest which 2face Idibia and other celebrities have come out to support.

Speaking in an interview in Lagos, President Buhari's Media Assistant, Femi Adesina, said:

"This is a country of about 180 million people. It is impossible for 180 million people to think the same way. Yoruba has a saying that if you all sleep and put your head in the same direction, then you are all foolish because you would be breathing in one another's mouth and lungs.
Don't forget the last election and how it went. Somebody scored 12.5 million votes, another scored about 15 million votes. There are some people who are still in that election mode. They have not gotten out of it and till today, they are still living and "rheumatisizing" about the past. What they don't know is that that past is gone and gone forever.
Majority of those calling for the protest are still in election mode. Majority of them are people that have resolved not to see anything good in this administration simply because the man they wanted lost at the polls."

It appears that this actress is obsessed with Pete Edochie

Nigeria-based Liberian Nollywood actress, Blessing Brown, has revealed just how much she is in love with veteran actor, Pete Edochie.
In a chat with SunNews, she said marrying an older man is key as they are blessed with a wealth of experience.
In her words:
“Since I was a child I have been crushing ‎on him. I still look forward to seeing myself in the arms of Pete Edochie. I don’t mind the fact that he is married; he is my dream husband. I like the way he talks, walks and acts. .

Nobody else can substitute him in my life right now. Not even his younger version, Yul Edochie; he doesn’t entice me. All I want is Pete and not his sons or look alike! I love him regardless of his age. Older men make good husbands. .

Age is just a number. If I love a 70-year old man, I don’t see why I shouldn’t marry him. I don’t have time for small boys still running around and wearing studs in their ears with lots of chains hanging around their necks.”

This is actually why Pastor Chris Okafor donated N3.5m to 23 Nollywood actors

Rosanwo, who claims to be a victim of domestic violence in his mariage receives public response from his wife!

This morning a Nigerian man, Babatunde Rosanwo, took to Twitter to disclose that he has been facing physical and verbal abuse in the hands of his wife and his in-laws.
Seeing the Tweets, the wife, Mariam has reacted, saying “there has been systemic emotional, psychological, and physical abuse from him to me”.

Summary of the statement above
She said his marriage to her was possibly for convenience, adding that he might have married her to get ‘Spouse of an EU Citizen Residency Permit’. Mariam is an Irish citizen.
She said that from the things she has been ‘reading online’, there are indications that he may have married her ‘for papers’.
According to her, they met on Twitter and he developed interest in her. She said she got married to him after she became pregnant for him. At the time also, she said he was on a Student’s Visa in Poland and had issues returning to the UK where he once lived.
After the pregnancy, the both got married – a ceremony that was attended by some of his friends, and his aunt and mother (who came from Nigeria).
She said that as soon as he got the Resident’s Permit, problem started. “He kept finding faults at me,” she said.
Mariam said she overheard her husband’s aunt telling him to quickly leave her (Mariam) since he had gotten his papers. She also disclosed that she found out that her husband had a teenager son in Nigeria “who he supports and is considering bringing to the UK”.
She said “there was systemic financial, psychological, emotional, and physical violence on his part to” her, adding that he isolated her from her friends and family because “they didn’t like him”.
“Because I was so emotional, processing all that was happening and acted in ways that were strange, he was able to perpetuate himself as the victim. Claiming and alleging Domestic Violence on himself,” Mariam said.
She added that she believes he claimed his is a victim of Domestic Violence so that he can remain in the UK as the constitution allows that.
She said he left without saying goodbye, and that after she had tried to contact him without response, she left with her son to Ireland to have a fresh start.
She also shared screenshots of their conversations during the time of the crisis and. She titled them “Begging Rosanwo for child care”. The screenshots also show them discussing about the other woman and her son in Nigeria.

In a series of Tweets, she stated she contributes 95% of the cost of raising their son, adding that she left her job in Dublin to move to UK with him so he can get his papers. She said his family called her crazy because she had postnatal depression as a result of the crisis she and her husband were facing.
She said she sold, her car, left her mortgage principal, and lent money to his friends. See below:

He kept telling me that he has millions and works with the Zenith Bank | Wife divorces ‘jobless’ husband

A civil servant, Faith Ogu, on Tuesday, dragged her unemployed husband, Joseph Ogu, to a Jikwoyi Customary Court in Abuja, seeking for divorce on the grounds that he deceived her about his ’employment’ status.
Faith told the court that her jobless husband had deceived her into believing he had a source of livelihood before their marriage, adding that she only got to knew about his status as a ‘job-less’ person after they had  tied the knot.
“He never told me that he had no job, instead he kept telling me that he works with the Zenith Bank and that he has a business in Lagos, that yields him millions.
“It was after I got married to him that I discovered the whole truth about him,” Faith said.
She told the court that Joseph had also told her that he had built a house somewhere in Lugbe, but that after investigating, she realised that it was false.

Faith said all her efforts to encourage him find a job did not elicit any positive response, as such she wanted the marriage dissolved.
“He is lazy and does not want to do anything for a living; I have been lending him money, hoping that he would pay back. “I sponsored our wedding, I even lent him money to pay my bride price,” she said.
The petitioner said that she had reported the matter to her elder sister to see if she could advise him but to no avail.
“I beg this court to dissolve my marriage so that I can be free; I am tired of feeding, clothing and paying medical bills for my husband ,” she pleaded.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Everyman Eleanya, however reiterated that the respondent had not been in court since the beginning of the case and therefore ordered that a Hearing Notice be pasted in his sister’s house.

He adjourned the case to Feb. 9, for continuation of hearing. (NAN)

alibaba
Popular standup comedian, Alibaba, has described Fulani herdsmen as the most powerful in Nigeria.
He noted that they were the only ones who could kill, destroy and walk away without prosecution.

Fulani herdsmen

The comedian labeled them as the power brokers in Nigeria.

On his Instagram page @alibabagcfr, the comic character shared a picture of a Fulani herdsman with his cows and wrote: “These are the new power brokers…. not those in oil and gas.

‘If anyone in oil and gas sends anyone to beat up… not kill… just beat up, they will see what is called the long arm of the law.

“But these guys? Powerful. They can walk all over your cassava farm, burn down your houses, raise down a village, kill the villagers… and walk off.

“And they only carry a stick. Just a stick. If you say who is is more powerful, security agencies or theses cattle rearers… heads or tail… herdsmen!

'Guy you fall my hand- Ruggedman comes for Blackface for criticizing Tuface Idibia's protest

It's so glaring that the verbal war between the Plantashun Boiz members is not ending anytime soon. Blackface, who has been feuding with his former band-mate, 2face, is apparently not in support of the February 5th protest 2face is heavily involved in.

Blackface, a father of two shared a post written by one Dr Bunmi Awoyemi who lambasted 2face, on his Instagram page and indicated he stands with the doctor.

"#NATIONWIDE#PROTESTS LETS EDUCATE THE ILLITERATE AS HE LEADS THE PROTEST. I read Tuface Idibia's verbal tirade in Vanguard in which he said he will be leading a protest against Buhari on the 5th of February for among other things not paying salaries of civil servants. I think he needs to be educated about the efforts of the Buhari administration: So far Buhari has released three bail out funds to the 36 states in Nigeria totalling over N1.5 trillion in the last 18 months. Apart from this another trillion was released as Paris Club refund money to the 36 states. Buhari emphasized the need for the states to prioritize the payment of salaries of workers and pensions of pensioners as these states receive the money. Unfortunately, instead of some states to use the funds to pay off civil servants and pensioners salary and pension arrears they chose to loot the funds. A governor of one of the South South states siphoned N3b of the funds using his mistress as a front and now the mistress has run away with the funds. Tuface Idibia you can now see why Nigerians are suspicious of the motive and source of the funds for the protest you want to embark on. Why didn't you lead a protest against these governors who mismanaged the Buhari bail out funds and the Paris Club refund money? Why did you not protest against GEJ's looting of N51 trillion naira and the Godswill Akpabio alleged looting of over N1 trillion naira from the Akwa Ibom state treasury for which he is being prosecuted by the EFCC? Why didn't you protest Akpabio's alleged corrupting of a Supreme Court justice who is currently being tried for corrupt practices on the bench? Is it because you are a corruption apologist? Is it because you are the agent of corruption fighting back? Is it because you are part of desperate plot to poison the hearts and minds against a fantastically incorruptible President who fights the corrupt no matter whose ox is gored? We your fans want to assure you that if you go ahead with this protest we will reevaluate our support for you and it may be downhill for you afterwards. Rethink your actions and reflect deeply. Dr. Bunmi Awoyemi Divinewealth #copied.". the post reads.

Meanwhile, Ruggedman has decided to come in and fight for zTuface and the main reason he is embarking on the protest. Ruggedman also expressed his disappointment at Blackface.

He wrote this: BLACKFACE FACE WHAT'S REAL

@blackfacenaija you be my guy and @official2baba na my guy but I will tell you that this your move right here is very disappointing. You sang hardlife and all when things were even a bit bearable, but now that things are really messed up you have kept quiet. But here you are mouthing off over a 2Face move? Guy you fall my hand. Talking about educating people.....1. It is not a protest being lead by 2face. He said he saw the post and thought to lend his voice to it. Something a few other artists and people have done. 2. So you knew about all the governors embezzling funds and yet you said nothing. But you are quick to shout now because 2face name has come out on something. But you make it too obvious you have something against 2face and you should have let all this go by now. NIGERIANS are suffering and you are just monitoring 2face. Atleast he has chosen to lend his voice to something all Nigerians believe is needed. What have you done? You have details that should be out there for all to see but you only decided to speak cos 2face is involved. Guy change your ways. I know you as a crusader and not a 2face hater. The people need voices that can be heard, I know you are one of them. Do the right thing brother. Life in Naija now is harder than it ever was and Buharis people should let Nigerians know what they are doing right and also let Nigerians know who and who is doing wrong. You cant say you are doing great things when the people cant feel it. You cant say you are fighting corruption yet not one corrupt official has been jailed in 2 years.

'My mother-in-law slapped me 18 times'- Popular Twitter user Rosanwo, shares his domestic violence story

Popular Twitter user Rosanwo has created a storm today, Tuesday, January 31, 2017, with his thread on domestic violence.
Rosanwo gave a personal account on how he has been a victim of domestic abuse in the hands of his wife over the last 20 months.

In his personal narration of events, Rosanwo tweeted "I have thought about my sons for so long but I have come to realize I have to speak up for me. I will explain to them when they are of age" as he revealed the details of his broken marriage.

Read below....

Continue reading from the picture: "There are 2 many people on here who know the truth about my marriage, from @Tund3_ to @eggheader. I endured it hoping for peace but... The spouse who collects child support above what the law stipulates but states otherwise in public just because men are bad.
Or the numerous false financial claims which I have to come to know about. The whole going public was to shut me down from speaking, now I am past that. Spent the last 13 months going from police to courts.
I have never been arrested or detained for a minute, I dropped charges against the spouse to not have to do this. Yet I am falsely accused. On one of those days of my physical abuse, I did have audio recordings in the house in case I did not make it. Someone would know how I died.
Those audios will be shortly on my YouTube channel. I am back to the courts but this time I won't be holding back. Gone me are the days I almost stepped in front of the bus to end it or dread going hom after work cos of what I was going through at home.
Where do I start from? Was it the mother in law who slapped me 18 times or the spouse who broke a bottle on me or the days I slumped at home. I realize that it would have just been Rosanwo is a nice guy if I had passed on. 1 min silence and live goes on.
Or the days when I had to call for help, Pastor to come and save me from the hands of the woman I claim to love. At the end of the day, the truth will prevail. I will no longer enable my abuser to use this space..
I don't have a marriage but I have 2 sons, survived DV & I am still breathing. Now time to put all the numerous allegations to rest. When my sons are of age, if God does not spare me long life, they will be able to read this and the court papers. Marriages fail however one does not have to fail with it."
